Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp ghee
  • 3 cloves
  • 1 cardamom pod
  • 1 inch cinnamon piece
  • 1 green chili
  • 2 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • ½ cup green peas
  • ½ cup jeera rice
  • 1 cup water
  • ¼ cup chopped coriander leaves
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  • Wash the rice several times in water and soak for half an hour.
  • Heat ghee in a pressure cooker. You can substitute ghee with any oil.
  • Add whole spices including cinnamon, cloves and cardamom.
  • When they sizzle, add ginger garlic paste and green chili. Cook till the raw smell of ginger garlic paste wards off.
  • Now add green peas and saute for a minute.
  • Add water and chopped coriander leaves.
  • Bring water to a boil and add washed and soaked rice.
  • Again bring it to a boil and close the pressure cooker.
  • Cook on medium flame for two whistles. Let the pressure release naturally.
  • Open the pressure cooker and fluff gently with a fork.
  • Serve with a side dish of your choice.
  • I packed my kid’s lunchbox with curd and paneer fry.

Notes

  • I have used a pressure cooker here, but you can also use any heavy bottomed pan or kadai. If using a pan/kadai, bring water and rice to a boil and simmer and cover them for 10 minutes. Switch off the stove. Do not disturb for 10 minutes. Then fluff gently and serve.
  • U have used frozen green peas but you can use fresh ones or dried green peas.
  • If using dried green peas, soak them overnight and pressure cook them for 5 whistles on medium flame and then use in this recipe.
  • You can use basmati rice, jeera rice (seeraga samba) or even regular rice to make this pulao. But the cooking time and water ratio varies for each rice so please do take care of that.
