Idli Upma Recipe
Idli Upma is a simple and yummy dish usually made with leftover idlis and can be served as a snack or a lazy morning breakfast.

- 6 to 8 leftover idlis
- 2 tbsp oil
- ½ tsp mustard seeds
- 1 tsp split urad dal
- ½ tsp chana dal
- 1 chopped onion small
- 2 green chillies
- 1 sprig curry leaves
- 1 pinch turmeric powder
- Salt to taste
Take the leftover idlis and crumble them coarsely.
Heat oil in a pan.
Add mustard seeds. Once the mustard seeds crackle add chana dal and split urad dal.
Once the dals are browned add finely chopped onions.
Saute for a few minutes and then add green chillies and curry leaves.
After the onions are browned add a pinch of turmeric powder.
Now add the crumbled idlis.
Mix everything together.
Add salt to taste.
Cover and cook for 2 minutes.
Serve as it is or with coconut chutney.
- You can also make Idli Upma with freshly made idlis.
- Add a few drops of lemon juice / a tbsp of idli gun powder / chopped ginger along with green chillies to make variations.
- You can garnish with coriander leaves or roasted peanuts.
